Volunteering at West Neighbourhood House – FAQS
1. What kind of volunteer work can I do?
All current opportunities can be found on our website on our volunteer page. You can also visit Volunteer Toronto’s website and search for “West Neighbourhood House”.
2. Are these the only opportunities available?
We recruit for different opportunities all year round. While these might be the only opportunities we might have at a given time, please feel free to complete the application and tell us more about your areas of interest and expertise. If a suitable opportunity arises in the future, we will reach out to you.
3. How can I apply?
You can apply through any one of the following methods:
- Paper Application: Pick up a Volunteer Application Form at our Reception at 248 Ossington Avenue.

- Electronic Application: Email us at volunteers@westnh.org to request an application form.
4. Are there currently opportunities for people under 18 years old?
All applicants must be 18 years of age or older to volunteer at West Neighbourhood House. Some exceptions may apply for one-time events, accompanied by parent/caregiver.
5. What happens after I submit my application?
Once we receive your application, a member of our Volunteer Program team will contact you within two weeks to schedule an Orientation Session (online or in-person, group or individual). After orientation, we will guide you through any required training, policies, and forms before onboarding.
6. What if I do not have a computer?
The Volunteer Program at West Neighbourhood House has a laptop that can be utilized by volunteers to complete the onboarding process.
7. Is a Police Check required for all volunteers?
No, not all volunteer opportunities require having a background check. You can find out more about this by reading the volunteer opportunities description.
8. How long will the onboarding process take?
The onboarding process may vary for different programs, times of the year, etc. Typically, you can expect the onboarding process to take up to 4 weeks.
9. Looking for a student placement opportunity?
Kindly send us your resume and cover letter along with the specific dates, hours, and particular program interests you might have (if any) to volunteers@westnh.org
10. Looking to complete High School Volunteering Hours?
If you are a youth aged 13 to 30 who was born outside of Canada—regardless of your immigration status or how long you have lived in Canada—you’re invited to connect with our Newcomer Youth Program!
We offer a wide variety of volunteer experiences that can help you:
- Complete your high school community service hours
- Gain valuable experience to enhance your resume
- Get involved in fun and meaningful youth programs
