Congratulations to the recipients of the Sir James Woods Award for 2024.
The Sir James Woods Award for Community Development is presented annually by West Neighbourhood House to recognize individuals who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to their community.
This year, we are pleased to present this to Ric Amis and Kelly Foote, who work tirelessly as volunteer community leaders on a wide range of issues in the Downtown West, including as part of the Parkdale Residents Association’s leadership.
With their deep knowledge, expertise, and dedication, the Parkdale Residents Association has become a go to source for Parkdalians to get easy but comprehensive information on the developments that affect their lives and neighbourhood. The award celebrates their achievements bringing together neighbours to advocate for and create more inclusive local arts and better public spaces.
We asked Kelly what inspires him most about Ric and he shared, “[As the Chair of the Parkdale Residents Association,] Ric is the best and most knowledgeable source for information on development projects in Parkdale. He never stops working. Every meeting, every City of Toronto deputation, every letter writing campaign, he is right in there. He shares his skills and time, not only for his projects, but also to those of others, like Peggy Lathwell’s Green P parking lot garden”.
Thank you to Ric Amis and Kelly Foote for all their contributions to our local community.
