Greenest City – General Volunteer - West Neighbourhood House

Program Description

Greenest City is seeking volunteers to support with a range of activities  (18 years old and older) to help with in-person administrative and/or program supports.  Through our different programs such as the Food Market, Kids Growing the Future, and Urban Agriculture/Edible Gardens, Greenest City is committed to creating opportunities for social justice, climate actions, and righting relations with Indigenous people. These volunteer opportunities require people to assist us in different duties that range from research, education, and administrative tasks to communications.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Administrative: Filing, stock management, answering phones, calling people
  • Programming and facilitation:  Leading workshops, outdoor teaching, planning programs, educational workshop design
  • Grant Writing
  • Communications: social media content, and design and promotion

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of issues faced by low-income Parkdale residents.
  • Ability to assist in and plan programs.
  • Ability to speak another language an asset.
  • Communication in English
  • Must be friendly, open, reliable, patient, non-judgmental and non-discriminating.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must have cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Must be able to commit for 6 months
  • Located at 201 Cowan Avenue Parkdale, downtown Toronto.

Orientation, Training, and Benefits:

  • Staff provides orientation and training before volunteers start
  • On-going support provided by staff.
  • On-going training workshop opportunities and get-togethers provided throughout the year
  • Certification letter

Volunteer Commitment:

  • Program Time: Available once a week and or depends on volunteers’ availability
  • Location(s) Greenest City office. 201 Cowan Avenue
  • Number of hours each week: 3 hours
  • Length of commitment: 6 months. From June to December 2024
