West Employment Services and Training (WEST) program has provided free services to help job seekers find work and local employers hire qualified workers since 1998.

Most of our services are still virtual but in-person appointments are available.

WEST offers the following services:

  1. Employment Service (One-to-one)
  2. Employment Resource Centre and Workshops
  3. Better Jobs Ontario (Second Career)

1. Employment Service (One-to-One)

Let us take the stress out of your job search 

Work one-to-one with an employment specialist to:

  • explore your career goals;
  • identify your training needs;
  • develop your job search skills through resume support, interview coaching and more; and
  • find and access other programs and services to support your career and job search.

You may also be eligible for financial assistance for supports (such as equipment or training) to facilitate your successful transition back to work. To register, please complete this form:

2. Workshops and Employment Resource Centre

Our Employment Resource Centre (ERC) is open to anyone who lives in Ontario, including people who are currently working.

  • The ERC provides Information on job search strategies, career assessment tools, local labour market news, training, education and apprenticeship programs.
  • Information and referrals to community programs, services, and resources.
  • We also provide a variety of workshops and information sessions.

3. Better Jobs Ontario

Get skills training and financial support when you qualify for Better Jobs Ontario (formerly Second Career)

Better Jobs Ontario is an expansion of the Second Career Program.

If you are eligible, our experienced Employment Specialists will:

  • Help you decide if the program is right for you;
  • Determine your suitability for the program;
  • Support you throughout the application process.

Please note that eligibility is not a guarantee that your application will be approved.

Who is eligible:

Eligibility varies depending on the service.

One-to-one Employment Services are available to people who:

  • Have permanent status in Canada (Canadian citizens, permanent residents, convention refugees or protected persons) and are residents of Ontario
  • Are unemployed or under-employed (working less than an average of 20 hours per week)
  • Are not attending an education or training program for more than 20 hours

Employment Resource Centre and Workshops are available to anyone in Ontario

Better Jobs Ontario support is available to people who:

  • Have permanent status in Canada (Canadian citizens, permanent residents, convention refugees or protected persons) and are residents of Ontario
  • Have been laid-off and have not been working or are working a temporary job just to cover costs

OR

  • Have not been laid-off but have been unemployed for six months or longer and are part of a low-income household
