Greenest City – Kids Growing the Future – Great Garden Adventure - West Neighbourhood House

Program Description

Greenest City through Kids Growing the Future, Great Garden Adventure is seeking a volunteer (18 years old and older) to help in weekly content creation and program support. This is a children’s gardening program that aims to educate low-income kids who live in Parkdale about sustainable ways of living and climate action. The volunteer will support outdoor summer activities focused on taking care of urban biodiversity, pollinator gardens, and growing food in some of our community gardens.

 

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Background Check is mandatory upon starting.
  • Help in creating weekly content for kids’ activities.
  • Support the staff in designing workshops.
  • Use of Zoom platform to connect to plan workshops.
  • Connect with children and families to foster a positive, inclusive, and stimulating environment.
  • Support kid’s gardens maintenance.

Orientation, Training, and Benefits: 

  • Staff provides orientation and training before volunteers are placed in the GTF-KGP
  • On-going support provided by staff.
  • On-going training workshop opportunities and get-togethers provided throughout the year
  • Certification letter

 Volunteer Commitment:

  • Program Time: Available once a week on Thursday from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM
  • Location(s) Milky Way Garden and Hope Garden.
  • Number of hours each week: 3 hours
  • Length of commitment: 4 months. (From June to mid September)
